Pete P. Gallego sent this as his answer to the un-lawful actions of President Obama. I have known his Family all my live and I would say they are turning over in their graves. Dear Forrest, Thanks for sharing your views on President Obama. I am always glad when folks reach out to share their opinions. Diversity of thought and opinion are key parts of democracy - and I always want to know whats on the minds of people I represent. I was born while John F. Kennedy was president. Since then, the world has gotten only more complicated, challenging, and dangerous. Every modern-day president has had his challenges - from the Iran-Contra scandal and an attack on a Marine camp in Beirut under President Reagan to the sluggish economy and the Benghazi attack under President Obama. I cannot imagine the burdens that a president must carry. Thus, I do not make it a habit to criticize our presidents, regardless of who they might be. On the contrary, as a Christian, I make it a habit to pray for them. A presidents success is our nations success. A presidents failure is our nations failure. As a parent of a young child, I do not want our nation to fail. We - all of us - have too much at stake. We must succeed, even if we succeed in spite of ourselves. As a small town boy, my parents and grandparents taught me more about right and wrong and patriotism than about partisanship and politics. Years later, I still follow the same simple rule they taught me: I support ideas and people when I think they are right. I part company with them when I think they are wrong. This policy is not one I or my parents created. It is a policy first enunciated by a hero of mine, President Abraham Lincoln, about 150 years ago, long before vitriol and extreme partisanship became so deeply entrenched in American politics. Lincolns advice is still good today. So few people take the time to write their representatives. Know that I greatly appreciate your taking the time to write to me. Thanks for letting me know your concerns and allowing me to share my thoughts. Feel free to contact me again if the need arises. My door is always open.
