Peter Andrew Ernst, I read that article on the carnal Christian by Macarthur, and it was good. But I think Macarthur would agree that the prevalent problem today as a whole, is that the reason for so much carnality in American churches, is for the simple reason people are not being truly born again. And the reason for so many lost people in our churches, of course, is our poor evangelism; which Im sure he would agree to as well. This is a good discussion topic, and one that can definitely be hard to dissect. I know in one of Macarthurs study Bible notes on either first or second Corinthians, I remember reading that if people continued in carnality, it was because they were not converted. But I know people can struggle with besetting sins, or may give in to temptation on occasion, but the key word is struggle. An unregenerate person wont hate sin in the same way as a converted person will, and there wont be the same fight against it. But even when I was a lost person, I reformed my life because of an inward struggle against sin, so even a struggle against sin isnt proof that you are regenerate, nor is conviction over sin necessarily an evidence of conversion. I would honestly love to see Macarthurs commentary on first John, if he has one. I dont know if he wrote a commentary on first John, or not. As you know, we live in the Laodicean church age, which is an unregenerate church. The great problem today is that so many are not born again.
