Peter Lynn Flying Dutchmen are participating at the toughest snowkite race in the world: The Varanger Artic Kite Enduro Race (VAKE). (vake.no) vake.no/index.php/93-peter-lynn-flying-dutchmen-nl In April 2014, Peter Lynn Teamriders Eric Leegwater and Pim Reurings will participate as the first Dutchmen ever at the toughest snowkite race in the world: the Varanger Arctic Kite Enduro snowkite race. In the most northern part of Norway, close to the Russian border, Eric and Pim will face the challenge of a 500 km race over the snow covered plains of the Varanger peninsula. The race could be as long as 500 km, depending on the wind speed and wind directions and will last for 4 days. With only a few checkpoints to pass, the team will have to be completely self-sufficient during the race and therefore they will tow a big sled with food, a tent, sleeping gear etc. On the featureless snow covered terrain, navigating will be by GPS and maps, adding a feeling of complete remoteness similar to being on the south Pole. They will bring the Peter Lynn Lynx kites for high winds and Vapor kites on 50 meter lines for low wind conditions. The team has been practising their skills and teamwork since December. peterlynn/training-for-vake/ We wish Eric and Pim a lot of success !
