Peters later expanded on the snake, which he had called Vipera - TopicsExpress

Peters later expanded on the snake, which he had called Vipera superciliaris, in his massive and lovely magnum opus of 1882, a 200-page work on the herpetofauna of Mozambique, entitled ‘Reise Nach Mossambique’ ([A] trip to Mozambique). I attach a picture of the plate of this snake from Peter’s book, you can see the artist did a pretty good job, although he must have been working from a dead snake. Peters had malaria many times in Mozambique, which wrecked his health, and he died at 68. But the man produced nigh-on 400 papers ; a dedicated professional; the herpetological community owes him a lot.
