Pete’s tail is wagging now, but just a few days ago he was so grotesquely matted, he could barely walk, let alone wag his tail. Pete was found as a severely neglected stray and was taken to the shelter by a concerned citizen. It’s hard to imagine how much discomfort he endured and how many months he suffered silently while the mats pulled and pinched his delicate skin. Pete needed to be sedated while the straitjacket of matted fur could be carefully clipped away. Amazingly, buried beneath the filth was a treasure: a handsome 15-pound Poodle/Cocker Spaniel mix, approximately two years old. Pete’s foster mom said he walked tentatively, like a newborn colt, after he was freed from his matted coat – he had to grow accustomed to so much freedom of movement! Despite the neglect he suffered, Pete is a forgiving and gentle soul with kisses and wags for everyone. He gets along nicely with other dogs and is respectful of cats. He is eager to learn new things, takes correction well and is a happy little guy, full of love and immensely grateful for his second chance. Your support enables us to help dogs like Pete.
