Petrol retailers are to demand an immediate cut in fuel duty this week - the Petrol Retailers Association claims that while the drop in oil price has pushed down the cost of petrol at the pumps, fuel taxes are now at near unsustainable levels. Brian Madderson, the chairman of the lobby group, said that at £1 a litre the Government would be taking 75p in tax, and added that the Treasury had already benefitted from an unexpected increase in petrol sales over the past year.
