Petter Solberg : I TRULY HOPE THAT THE WRC GOES BACK TO AFRICA #BringBackWRCintoAfrica Here is an interview with the 2003 World Rally Champion and current leader (and the eventual Champion) in the 1st FIA RallyCross Championship. Enjoy! Q. Petter Solberg, you are with Sébastien Loeb the last WRC drivers who raced the Safari rally that are still active in Motorsports, Could you share us your experience in Africa? A. The Safari Rally is one of the best experiences that I have. I miss it a lot. This was actually where my career started for real. It was an incredible atmosphere for sure. Q. Currently you’re doing rallycross, what is the difference between rallycross and WRC. And what is your advantage as you were in WRC before ? A. It’s a huge difference. In my opinion it is a big challenge to turn over to a different sport and try to succeed. But I’m after big challenges. The main differences is the cars, the power and driving in fields. But one have to think different also when it comes to strategy. Q. It’s said you’ll be back in WRC with Citroën Racing ? Right or wrong ? A. The only thing I’m focusing on now is to win the World Rallycross Championship. Nothing has been decided regarding 2015. Q. In Africa, many young persons are dead on roads by wishing to imitate rally drivers. Your word about Road Safety? A. It’s terrible to hear. I have been working active for many years for road safety - the most important thing is to respect other people and drive on closed roads. Q. Africa hasn’t been in WRC since 2002, your opinion ? A. I truly hope that the WRC goes back to Africa. It’s a totally different and fascinating type of rally.
