Petty theft (shoplifting) cases in Torrance: Serious Business As we have explained, when it comes to criminal cases in Los Angeles County, your specific location matters. The difficult reality is that in Torrance (and the South Bay area generally), accusations of shoplifting are taken more seriously than they might be in other areas just within Los Angeles County. This is due to a number of factors, all of which are beyond the control of the person accused of the petty theft. It may change in the future, but for now, cases which might easily be ‘diversion’ or ‘infraction’ eligible in other courthouses may not be quite so easily resolved here in the South Bay.
