PhD Program 2014 at SN Bose The S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences invites students with consistently good academic record (First Division/Class) to apply for admission into the Post-M.Sc Ph.D Programme in Physical, Chemical & Biological Sciences 2014. The students who apply are expected to be motivated to make a career in Research. The programme is fully residential and the students are offered on-campus accommodation and boarding facilities. The Centre charges no fee for the programmes. All students joining the centre get contingency grants to meet research contingency expenses that include expenses for attending conferences and training programmes in India. The students also get generous support to attend International Conferences outside India. The Bose Centre is a premier autonomous research centre fully aided by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. In addition, the Centre receives extramural funding from various funding agencies of India and abroad for its different research programmes. The Centre has extensive collaborative programmes with other premier institutions in India and abroad through bi-lateral exchanges in which the PhD research scholars take active part. The Centre is fully equipped with the state-of-the art infrastructure (experimental and computational) including a digital library for advanced research in chosen areas of Physical, Chemical, Biological and Mathematical Sciences. Specifically, the research programme in biological sciences focuses on the areas of overlap with chemical and biophysical problems. At present, the Centre has nearly 150 students in its Post-M.Sc-PhD (PhD) and Post-B.Sc Integrated PhD (IPhD) programmes. The Alumni of the Centre have gone on to work in academic and research sectors in India and abroad. The Centre offers an excellent atmosphere for academic development of students. The students, after registering with a Research Supervisor, have to undertake a prescribed Course Work Programme. The details of the admission test are furnished below: 1. Basic qualification: M.Sc. with First Class/Division i.e., minimum 60% in aggregate (55% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Biophysics or Biochemistry. 2. Admission Procedure: Through Bose Test: Aspiring candidates with good academic record may apply on-line for an entrance test conducted by SNBNCBS. Through JEST: Cutoff rank for JEST 2014 qualifiers will be available in the website shortly after publication of JEST 2014 result. JEST 2014 qualified candidates within the cutoff rank stipulated by SNBNCBS will apply for direct interview and need not apply for Bose Test 2014. Through NET: CSIR–NET–JRF qualifiers (June-2013 & December-2013) will apply for direct interview and need not apply for Bose Test 2014. Through GATE: GATE 2014 qualifiers with All India Rank 600 or better will apply for direct interview. Through RGNF: SC/ST candidates who have been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) can apply for direct interview. 3. Eligibility for Interview: Selected / Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview during 9-16 June 2014, based on their result in Bose Test 2014 and/or JEST 2014 score and/or CSIR NET-JRF 2013 and/or GATE 2014 All India Rank. Further, as mentioned above, applicants who are RGNF awardees will be called directly for interview. 4. Age Limit: None. However, the last qualifying University examination (M.Sc.) should have been taken not earlier than 2012. 5. Fellowship: In line with the CSIR rules. Rs 16,000/- per month for the first two years as a JRF. Thereafter, upon meeting the eligibility criteria of the Centre and a Comprehensive Examination, the students will be inducted as SRF with a monthly stipend of Rs. 18000/-. The programme is strictly residential and all students will be provided on campus accommodation. 6. On-line Application: Starts on 10th March, 2014 Closes on 23 rd March, 2014.
