PhD: Progressively Hypnotizing Delight Right from a very young age, I had heard elite people around me solemnly comment, on the horrors of their PhD expedition. I recollect one gentleman say that, it was the most excruciatingly and terminal experience he had survived to narrate. The oldest among them said that, once I completed my PhD I would avoid even mentioning my topic in public, for fear that I might just throw up. Yet another would say that all his hair turned gray in the chronologically of that never ending period. The next would point out at his glasses and say that the microscope- like thick lenses on my nose is courtesy PhD. Oddly, in spite of all this a time came in my life where something from within urged me to pursue a PhD. Well synchronized with this, all those ‘old wives tales’ about the ‘Inglorious Killer’ started to circle me. But before they could take me over completely my unconscious mind came to re-claim me. I sat to mediate. Meditation, mind you, is not only my hobby-horse, but it has served me like a chivalrous, young, handsome, charming,…man who comes to my rescue in times of need. While I sat to meditate at the beach, I heard it. It was my inner voice. Muddled in the beginning but loud and clear towards the end. Very cleverly my conscious mind randomly recorded whatever it said to me and here it goes: Asfia, those times were different. Those people were different. Their values were different. Their upbringing was different. Their perceptions were different. They were not as lucky as you stand. You have access to all resources, online journals, systems, software, and other technological supports. Your supervisors are so humble and yet motivating. Your colleagues are inspiring. Your family is accommodating. Your friends are cooperative. Besides, you and your topic are blindly in love with each other. Your life is always full of experiments so why not write this one as a dissertation. Go Asfia and enjoy the Progressively Hypnotizing Delight: Your PdD! And so I have been doing and so can you do.
