PhD Scholarship in Computer Science UK Microsoft Research PhD Programme Lancaster University -School of Computing and Communications A PhD scholarship is available to work with Dr. Manfred Lau at Lancaster University. The scholarship is funded by Microsoft Research Cambridge, UK, and you will be co-supervised by researchers there. The areas of research are in computer graphics and human-computer interaction. We intend to develop a set of 3D modeling and digital fabrication tools that are suitable for use with the Microsoft Gadgeteer framework. The three-year position is fully funded (tuition fees + stipend of at least £15,500 per year plus annual increments) for UK or EU students, and includes a laptop bursary. We welcome international applicants, but an additional overseas student fee will need to come from another source. If selected for the scholarship, you may also have a chance to attend a PhD summer school and to apply for an internship at Microsoft Research Cambridge. The expected start date is October 2013 but this is flexible, as later start dates are possible. The search for applicants is ongoing until a suitable candidate is found. Please apply early if interested. The applicant should have a strong degree in computer science (or related area) and/or an appropriate Masters degree. Previous research experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: computer graphics, human-computer interaction, digital fabrication, and computational design.
