PhD position in Biocatalysis PhD position in Biocatalysis KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. KTH has 15000 under-graduate students, 1600 students at doctoral level (third) level and 4300 employees. The School of Biotechnology at the Royal Institute of Technology offers a curriculum that reflects the multidisciplinary nature of Biotechnology, integrating theoretical and applied science in undergraduate and graduate courses. The school has six departments with about 300 employees. The biotechnology research within the school is internationally well recognized. Project Description This is an interdisciplinary project in the areas of enzyme catalysis and polymer chemistry. As a PhD-student you will synthesize functional polymers based on renewable monomers using enzyme catalysis. You will characterize the synthesized polymers with a variety of analytical techniques. The research will be performed in close collaboration with polymer chemists and have the following main objectives: Develop efficient and selective enzymatic routes to functional polymers Design new polymer resins based on renewable monomers for use in thin film applications Eligibility and Assessment Criteria The potential candidate must have a Masters degree with a focus on biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology or a corresponding degree. Special qualifications in biocatalysis and polymer chemistry will be regarded as an advantage when comparing different applicants. The candidate should be highly motivated for doing scientific research and should have well developed analytical and problem solving skills.
