PhD scholarship in Green IS available at QUTs Information Systems School Applications are invited from suitable qualified graduate students for a PhD scholarship at the Information Systems School at Queensland University of Technology as part of the ARC Discovery project Developing a Theory of Green Information Systems. The term of the scholarship is three years. The scholarship provides financial support towards study and living costs. Project Background The role of the PhD student is to contribute to the ARC-funded research project entitled Developing a Theory of Green Information Systems. The project aims to create new and validated knowledge about designing Information Systems, which will allow organizations to perform environmentally sustainable work practices. The PhD student will be involved for the duration of the project in all facets of the research such as theory development, prototype development, experimental evaluation and/or methodology development. Potential research programs for the PhD student can be two-fold: One avenue is to focus primarily on design science as a research paradigm. In this stream, the PhD student will contribute extensively to the development of a novel design theory and instantiation of a novel Green IS. Alternatively, the PhD student may focus primarily on experiments as a research paradigm and will thus contribute extensively to the design, conduct and analysis of experiments evaluating Green IS prototypes. In either case, the student is expected to develop and formalize a significant original research contribution warranting a PhD degree and to develop a high-quality doctoral thesis and associated research articles. Jan is Alexander-von-Humboldt Fellow and Woolworths Chair of Retail Innovation at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. He has been ranked as the most productive Information Systems researcher for the past three years, and is ranked #13 globally based on publications in the top-6 journals over the past five years. His main areas of research include process design in organizational practice, Green IS, and IT-enabled business transformations. His research has been published in the MIS Quarterly, the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, the European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management, the Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems, and other key journals. The project also involves a post-doctoral research fellow that will be expected to lead the execution of the project and work closely with the doctoral student. The project furthermore involves two international partner investigators, Prof Jan vom Brocke and Dr Stefan Seidel from the University of Liechtenstein (uni.li/iwi). The Research Environment QUTs Information Systems School is one of the highest ranked IS research departments in Australia based on research quality. Application Criteria The successful applicant - has a Masters degree in management, information systems, marketing, business administration or a comparable field. He or she completed the Masters degree with a GPA of 6 or higher (or equivalent). The Masters degree needs to have a significant research component (i.e., a completed research thesis). - has demonstrated knowledge of research methods - has the ambition and capabilities to complete a high-quality PhD project within 3 years. - has a strong research mindset, and evidence of skills in theoretical and empirical research, especially in quantitative methods such as experiments or surveys or in design science. - possesses a broad understanding of relevant information systems research literature. - possesses strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. - speaks and writes fluently in English. - likes to work in an international setting. It is expected that each application criteria is explicitly addressed. Applicants will be screened and, if suitable, invited for further assessment and interviews and/or testing.
