PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy ) is professional doctoral degree started in 2008 by Ministry of health Under PCI pharmacy act 1948 act, passed PharmD gazette 2008 guidelines framed on the lines of PharmD course USA (ACPE approved ). PharmD is minimum qualification to practice as pharmacist in clinical and community settings in most western countries. which is as per recommendations of World Health Organisation about pharmacist role took place in New Delhi 1988. Most countries has taken up this course as their curriculum after the fruitful results seen in USA & other western countries. PharmD course in India structured with 5years of educational period and 1 year of clinical internship in 300 bedded hospital in different departments of medicine like general medicine, psychiatry, orthopedics, dermatology, gynecology and pediatrics. During internship we look after prescription, Dose calculations, Drug interactions, Adverse drug reactions If any. we perform daily followup, patient counseling . Regarding Job opportunities We are best fit for clinical pharmacist, Pharmacovigilence , clinical Research profiles. Currently we are facing problems in Hospitals as government hospitals not equipped with clinical pharmacist cadre. But JCI , NABH accredited Hospitals recruit us for clinical pharmacist positions to avail medical tourism. I guess most of the recruiters still not aware of PharmD course and their Job prospectus
