Pharrell and Busta did not get paid to make Pass the Courvoisier nor did Nelly get paid to make Air Force Ones like Run DMC got paid to make My Adidas way back in the day. Russell Simmons has always been a marketing genius. Although My Adidas was written because the group truly did love the shoes, Russell made a deal with the company before the song dropped and it breathed life back into the company. The people that make Courvoisier had never heard the song or of Pharrell and Busta prior to it/they were brought to their attention. The company then sponsored a few shows/parties they did afterwards even though the song helped their business get back on the map after years of low sales. Nelly went to Nike after the song had become popular and their sales for the shoe had skyrocketed and tried to make some sort of a deal but it wasnt very lucrative and it had something to do with another shoe being made.
