Phew! What a day! Heres our recap. The donations were a great success, filling the back of the truck to the brim. And all the coats were very nice, clean and quality garments. (a huge THANK YOU to all our donators!) And the gourmet PB/Jelly sammies (handcrafted with love by Sheryl Luke) were paired with bananas. Who knew men had a special affinity for PB&J! They were devoured! We spent the day collecting and then visiting homeless areas. Many in camps have moved on to areas with more protection ... still, we learned from the Community Acton Team today that there are hundreds of homeless people in Columbia County. We were able to leave many of the womens coats with the Womens shelter and we ended our day with the remaining coats at the Community Meals Program. We think we started out with approximately 50 coats as well as various accessories. We finished the day with only 10 or so left and those are still being made available through the meals program. So tonight there are a few homeless people with a new coat that are hopefully a bit warmer and a few others with a nice coat that they could otherwise not afford to buy themselves. We enjoyed being a part of a team with you all and we look forward to doing it again soon. Youll have another chance to donate if you missed out this time. Just watch for our post in the near future.
