Philadelphia Eagles News... John Baczynski August 16th 2014 John Baczynski is a freedom of speech writer for Free Speech America. Chip Kelly pays a price for his fast paced high octane offense. The price is time of possession, and the end result is a loss. The reason for the loss? Time of possession. Put very simply, you cannot continue to throw your defense out on the field with little to no rest and expect them to play stellar. The defense in fact spotted the offense a 7 point lead against a very stellar opposing offense, one that boasts one of the best quarterbacks and coaching staffs in all of football... But Chip Kellys Eagles did not take time off the clock and continued to gift-wrap 2nd chances for the oppositions offense to get on track, and they did... To the tune of 42 points, 476 yards, and a 40 to 20 minute time of possession advantage. Last year Chip Kelly made reference to time of possession being overrated, claiming that whichever team takes the most offensive snaps is usually the prevalent team, while that may be true, tell that to a worn out defense playing against one of the best teams in the league... and if winning a super bowl is the goal will they not have to beat at least one of the best teams in the league? I wonder if there is a plan B anywhere in the preparations for the season, or the playoffs. Or if Chip Kelly plans to win superbowls with only a plan on offense. Two key moments of last nights game were very clear. 1) On 1st and goal from inside the 5 yard line, the Eagles were unable to get in the endzone. The Patriots defense were stacked and strong. 2) On the last drive of game, the Eagles defense was unable to stop a third and 4th string Patriot offense from moving the chains and running the clock out. They were tired. They had played 40 minuets of ball as compared to the Patriots 20 minuets of defense. I am not throwing Chip Kelly under the bus, he did after all get rid of Michael Vick and some of the personnel moves have proven to be good, but I am not sold on his philosophy just yet and the results are piling up against him as the defense continues to pick up where it left off last year... giving up massive chunks of real estate by the games end. If that trend does not end this season, and Chip Kelly does not begin to honor the time of possession stat as the rest of NFL caliber coaches do, will it be time to pull the plug? Or continue on with a circus clown at the helm? Stay tuned and buckle up, its gonna be a bumpy ride.
