Philadelphia, PA ~ The Lemon Hill estate in Fairmount Park is where the first lemon trees in the United States were planted. Originally known as The Hills, the property was once the home of Robert Morris, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a major financier of the American Revolution. He eventually went bankrupt due to land speculation and Philadelphia merchant Henry Pratt purchased the main part of the property at a sheriffs sale in 1799.
