Philip was also one of the Lords disciples. Bible history shows - TopicsExpress

Philip was also one of the Lords disciples. Bible history shows that he was most likely a follower of John the Baptist, before Jesus Christ selected him to be one of the twelve. He was from Bethsaida, better known as a Galilean. In John 1:43, Philip heard these words: The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. Philip was a man with limited vision, very cautious, and a conservative person. As he walked with the Lord, but a heart sold out to the Saviour. He was responsible for Bartholomew becoming a disciple. Christian traditions describe Philip as the apostle who preached in Greece, Syria, and Phrygia. During the Last Supper, John 14:8–11, when Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father, he provides Jesus the opportunity to teach his disciples about the unity of the Father and the Son. According to this account, through a miraculous healing and his preaching Philip converted the wife of the proconsul of the city. This enraged the proconsul, and he had Philip, Bartholomew, and Mariamne all tortured. Philip and Bartholomew were then crucified upside-down, and Philip preached from his cross. As a result of Philips preaching the crowd released Bartholomew from his cross, but Philip insisted that they not release him, and Philip died on the cross. Another legend is that he was martyred by beheading in the city of Hierapolis. I am so amazed at these wonderful Men of God, that chose not to compromise. Philip doggedly preaching the Gospel while hanging upside down on a cross. The confidence and assurance that he had knowing that his eternal home was with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Saviour. I am touched and more determined to follow the Lord...
