Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, - TopicsExpress

Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. I love oxymorons. You know, words that really dont belong together? For example: Military intelligence Congressional ethics Act naturally Airline food Paid volunteer Jumbo shrimp Devout atheist Funny, huh? Well, what about the phrase, Proud Christian. Ive seen it on bumper stickers and Internet memes. What does it mean to be a proud Christian? Does it mean, unashamed, as in Romans 1:16? Or does it hint at something else, as if by being a Christian, youve accomplished something worth bragging about? If we have the mentality that we can accomplish salvation or Christ-likeness, then were missing the heart of faith in Christ...humility. After all, did we make ourselves Christian? I doubt anyone reading this would believe that theres such a thing as a self-made Christian, yet thats how we behave sometimes. Christian worship and service cant be centered on somebody else but Jesus and still be truly Christian. We cant combine Jesus with Islam, Buddhism or any other form of worship and still have Jesus exalted above all. In the same way, we cant make Christianity about us and call it true worship. Its not about us, its about Him. It was Jesus righteousness, his love, his suffering, his death and his resurrection that made all of this a reality. Its only through Jesus that we can know God and be reconciled to God. God has exalted Jesus so that we can have eternal life. Its God who has done for us, and not us for Him, things that are praiseworthy. 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 says, But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. Corrie ten Boom, a Nazi concentration camp survivor, was once asked if it was difficult for her to remain humble. She replied, “When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday on the back of a donkey, and everyone was waving palm branches and throwing garments on the road, and singing praises, do you think that for one moment it ever entered the head of that donkey that any of that was for him?” Lets remember always that its all about Him, and there isnt anyone who ever has or ever will come close to His glory.
