Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Virtue, arete (ar-et-ay) moral excellency and goodness. Our character and conduct begin in the mind; so what our thoughts are on is who we become. Our actions are the result of how we occupy our thoughts. Paul cautioned the Philippians to think on things that would result in right living and peace. We can think about a problem until we blow it completely out of proportion; we can feel sorry for ourselves and wallow in the self pity of what is going on until we can’t even be rational. The enemy uses our mind to enter our lives and we lay out a WELCOME mat. How many times do we take God’s Word and try to rightly see what is in front of us. Instead the enemy is right there to help us to believe lies, half truths and fears, that really don’t even exist. However, if the enemy can get you to buy his garbage then you will have all his trash to deal with. The first thing we need to do is recognize that we have faults, we fall short and without God we are hopelessly lost; then we need to call on God, repent and ask His divine intervention into our lives. When we have done all of these things we need to start reading His Word and trying to live by it the best we can. When we empty ourselves out before a merciful God, He will help us fight back the wrong thoughts and open our minds to the right way of thinking. The verse above tells us what to think about; good things that will bring us peace. Our peace is stolen when we allow the enemy to cause us to think on the wrong things. We can fester on the thoughts he brings us until we abuse the people who love us with unkind words and actions. The enemy will cause us to put our self first, our desires second and our loved ones last. In the beginning we will have to “purpose” to think on these things, but after awhile it will become a habit that will bring peace to our lives. Make a commitment today to think on the good things and every time a bad thought comes pull the rug out from underneath it. Ask God to help you and watch as your life completely changes and you will begin to move from glory to glory! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Lord we thank you today for your Word that you have given us to bring understanding and power into our lives. Forgive us for going our own way and not turning to you with our complete life. We submit our life to you today and ask that you help us to throw down the old ways and listen intently to the direction of your Holy Spirit. Open our blinded eyes and help us to hold on to the things you reveal to us; give us understanding and wisdom like we have never had before; and help us to be a part of bringing others to know you. We love you and thank you and ask these things in the name of your Son, Jesus, AMEN. P.S. In these last days that we are living we need to get as much of the word as possible. If any of you have a ladies group at your church or Bible study that you would like to have a guest speaker, I would be anxious in the Lord to come and speak for you. You may contact me at this email address. Maranatha!
