Philippines’ best in one concert Isah V. Red, Manila Standard, Jan. 25, 2015 TWO decades ago, this is an impossible dream. But now, the impossible has come to reality. Four of the country’s top concert attractions will be on the same stage on Feb. 13 and 14 for a Valentine show called Ultimate. It has always been Anna Puno’s dream that her Starmedia Entertainment pull together Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Lani Misalucha and Gary Valenciano, the four biggest names in the local music industry, in one show. It took years and many other shows in between before the plan materialized. In 2008, Starmedia produced The Main Event featuring Regine Velasquez and Lani Misalucha with sold out shows in the US and Canada. It was never staged in the Philippines. In 2009, Starmedia in collaboration with Manila Genesis staged AS1 featuring Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. More than 30,000 went to watch the show. It had a repeat at the Araneta Coliseum and was staged in more than 20 cities in the US, Canada, Middle East, and the Philippines. Cacai Mitra of I-Music Entertainment (IME) has been behind solo shows, like the much talked about 25th Anniversary entitled Silver in 2012, of Regine Velasquez, and its equally successful repeat in 2013, not to mention other shows in the previous years. Friends for many years and having worked with each other on many occasions, it was in 2005 that Anna and Cacai officially teamed up for a collaboration concert entitled Queens on Fire featuring Regine Velasquez and Pops Fernandez at the Ultra Stadium. Eight years later, in 2013, they made a mark in the local entertainment concert scene by producing the award winning Foursome, also for Valentine’s Day, with Martin Nievera, Pops Fernandez, Regine Velasquez, and Ogie Alcasid. The show was staged again in March of the same year. Then last year, Regine Velasquez and Martin Nievera were featured in a reunion of sorts called Voices of Love at Mall of Asia Arena, again for Valentine’s Day. This year, Starmedia and IME are able to gather the four for a much anticipated concert team up in the history of Philippine concerts.. Through the years, Martin, Regine, Lani and Gary’s stars have shone only brighter—and now they are at their brightest. Martin Nievera continues to astound audiences with his soulful voice. With over 20 albums to his name, several awards and hundreds of performances under his belt—this singer, TV host, and actor remains to be the one and only Concert King. Gary Valenciano with his powerhouse performances has become the benchmark of the ultimate performer and even now continues to live up to his moniker, Mr. Pure Energy. Recently, he was awarded Male Recording Artist of the Year, Male Concert Performer of the Year and Concert of the Year—ARISE at the Star Awards. Regine Velasquez is Asia’s Songbird and for great reason. Her incredible vocal range has made her a national favorite and is considered to be the Philippines’ Best-Selling Artist of All Time by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry. Audiences keep falling in love not just with her singing voice but with her charisma on TV and on the big screen. Regine is one of the country’s living treasures. Lani Misalucha had been hailed as one of the best singers on Philippine soil but she proved her talent knows no boundaries when she instantly became the ‘New Siren of the Strip’ when she moved to Las Vegas in 2004. Her fandom has since expanded to include Filipinos and foreigners alike. Now she’s back in the Philippines and continues to make waves in the OPM industry. With each of their distinctive styles, unforgettable hits and numerous achievements as solo acts, they continue to make deeper and deeper impressions in the hearts and souls of old and new listeners.
