Phillies won a game yesterday! They beat the Twins 5 to 1 as Kyle - TopicsExpress

Phillies won a game yesterday! They beat the Twins 5 to 1 as Kyle Kendrick pitched six very effective innings followed by Johnathan Papelbon and BJ Rosenberg, Rosenberg struck out the side in the 8th. Jroll hit his third home run of the spring, Marlon Byrd and Dom Brown both had two hit days with crisp line drive hits, Utley was hitting line drives again and the big Piece Ryan Howard had an RBI single and just missed a tater in his first at bat as he just got under a pitch he hit a fly out to left on. All in all a very good day for the Fightens! I mentioned there is a memorabilia auction at the stadium every game, today in my obligatory check of the merchandise for sale I noticed that one dude had put opening bids of $400 on four separate items! I told the auctioneer that the guy must really like the stuff! He said the fella said he wanted to make sure he got at least one of the items, I didnt bid ( too rich for me), wonder if the guy got all four and had to put out $1,600! I never went back to the auction table at end of sixth inning to see, that is when it turns into live auction for final bids, was afraid my competitive juices would make me do something stupid and cost me some bucks! At the games the Phillies have ball girls from the hooters restaurants down each foul line, they usually aint there for their baseball skills or knowledge :) Yesterday a ball was ripped down the left field line by the twins and the ump signaled it was fair, only problem was it was headed directly for the hooters girl! She caught it clean on one hop ( in self defense) and proceeded to toss the ball into the stands! When she became informed that it was a fair ball and she should not have touched it she was obviously embarrassed, in fact made no attempt to field any baseball the rest of the game fair or foul! Jroll motioned for her to come play shortstop after her catch but she had her head down in her glove so didnt notice, all just for fun in spring training! Skipper Sandberg put the starting lineup in entirety on the field yesterday and played four guys ( brown, Byrd, revere and Utley) the whole game. Howard played eight innings. This is unusual for spring training but I think ryno wants to set a tone this last week heading into the season. Phillies optioned Kevin Frandsen to triple A yesterday and my initial reaction like everyone else was why? Turns out with the injuries they have and the likelihood that a few non roster players will make the opening day team they needed to move someone with an option off the roster, I expect that Frandsen will stay with the organization and be back on the big club after the roster mess is figured out. Bobby Abreu may be the latest with an injury, is complaining about a bad shoulder it seems. Cesar Hernandez played 3b yesterday and looks like someone who could make the roster since Galvis is out. Expect Tony Gwynn Jr to make the team and I think that young lefty Mario Hollands also has a very good shot as well. Phillies play Jays in Dunedin today, we are skipping that one, am sunburnt a bit, freaking sun down here burns thru the clothes! Have a great Monday everyone!
