Phillip Hughes: A poem to be remembered by A fun loving country boy born and bred, the smallest in his class at least by a head. Whilst not big in stature, he had a huge heart, cricket was his passion, the game was his start. The ball came off his bat at speeds unseen, right out of the middle so crisp, so clean. Jumping on anything too short or too full, he was so well-mannered, so relaxed, so cool. A blue cap was presented, put on a big smile so wide, he had already conquered great, selected in the NSW side. A tonne in the final, a classy display, the South Africans were now waiting, Hughesy was on his way. All of Australia were seeing how he fared, Big Dale Steyn said ‘mate I think you’re scared’. Hughesy said ‘yep’, and put his head down, and before we knew it the bat was up off the ground. Two tonnes in one match, he’s Bradman, he’s a freak, and still with all the pressure and hype, a great smile from cheek to cheek. Though whilst he was dropped, a harsh four times, he worked continuously hard, his sheffield shield results sublime. Clarkey may be injured, Hughes will be at four, at the SCG, 63, set for a big score. The ball sprung up and into his neck, Hughesy was down, run into check. Big blokes were crying, tears were down their cheeks, the news was endless the verdict was bleak. You were taken away, too early at that, the nation is mourning the population flat. On front porches and street signs we all put out our bats, on Saturday and Sunday those playing all raised their hats. Now young Sean Abbott this was in no way your fault, proceed with your life, don’t stop, don’t halt. This was meant to be, all part of a plan, God needed an opening batsmen and Hughesy was his man! ................... My heart goes out to the Hughes family, the cricket family and all his friends. Im absolutely crushed watching the funeral, it just shows what type of man Phillip was and the difference he has made in everybodys lives. Taken way too young. Your a champion, Rest In Paradise
