Phone calls this morning to Ericabetzs office, Marles office and just now, Morrisons. Abetz - well you win some, you lose some, and today I told Alan (Ashlin?) that he should not hang up because it behooved him to listen to me. He did. It is unacceptable that he tries to cut off conversation. I start to recognise the game, the pattern of behaviour. Disgusting and contemptable. Marles: discussion regarding power, democracy and weaving through it all, that I consider Abbot to be a thug in a suit and that the Labor Party should be able to find strength to counter that. Morrisons office, Melanie, quick call, saying that I consider Australia stupid to be taking only 13,500 refugees and fobbing its responsibilities off to one of the poorest nations on earth. Our democracy is weak. Divided we have absolutely no power, and what this government cares about is power. They are overgrown bullies in the playground. Wisdom doesnt dent that. Care doesnt dent it. Letters count - but I think also voices at the end of the line count. And, the more, the better. We have to claim what we want. With calculation and deliberation. Alan (Ericabetzs office), tried to bluster his way by countering with demands that i tell where it says this, that or the other - so swamping any protest by claims of wanting verification. Where does it say the UNHCR is underfunded? Who says it? Etc, etc. I dont know the intricate details - but, you know what, I do know the UNHCR itself says it is, but when dealing with an aggressive man, I dont remember where. But that is the trick I have to learn. It isnt up to me to know the answers. It is up to the representatives of OUR representatives to listen to us. They can look it up if they really dont believe it - but generally, they know it is true - and they have the resources & can do it. We have the responsibility to demand we be properly represented. The skill we - I - have to learn, is to take no bullshit - and to not allow our rights to be hijacked. Back to power. Power exists in clarity of thought, an aim and unity - through community. Gandhi did not achieve his aims through his own power. He had to have the people behind him. Ive had ideas which have received no comment - are lost in nothingness. Then some-one with prominence articulates the same idea, and it has credence - but only because people catch that idea and spread it. Community. The playground of ideas. The most important thing is that those ideas are taken and ARTICULATED. We claim our rights through articulation.
