Photo challenge Day 1 Michael Groenewald has challenged me to - TopicsExpress

Photo challenge Day 1 Michael Groenewald has challenged me to post a photo a day for five days. This heavily-processed image – of Smitswinkelvlakte – has to be viewed in the context of the two Ive posted with it. It was a public holiday – Good Friday – and, as was my routine, I headed down to Cape Point, shooting whatever caught my eye despite the weather being as it inevitably turns out to be on Easter weekends; misty and moody, with a hint of rain on what little wind there was. It was when processing the images that night that I found myself cranking the reds and yellows. On deciding to process the image of the three trees, I realised what I was making – an Easter triptych. They say you can take the boy out of the Church but you cant take the Church out of the boy and, being a Good Catholic Boy, I know theres some truth to that. I was pleased with the result. If somewhat kitsch, it evoked the mood of the day. Ostensibly three trees on the road outside of Simons Town, the Cape of Good Hope, and Smitswinkelvlakte, each turned out to be something more. The exercise (in the subconscious capturing and processing) left me realising, Hey, some ideas, myths and their imagined realities run far deeper than you think. I nominate Bruce Molzen to join the photo challenge and post one picture and write a short spiel about it each day for the next five days and to nominate another photographer for the challenge each day.
