Photograph of the former Consumers’ Sanitary Coffee & Butter Stores’ warehouse, bakery and retail building that was located on the west side of the 5000 of South Halsted Street, photo circa 1952. The warehouse building on the southwest corner of West 50th Street and South Halsted Street was the main warehouse of the Consumers’ Sanitary Coffee & Butter Stores back in the 1920s. The center warehouse building was where the Bakery section of the company was located and the one-story corner store building on the northwest corner of West 50st Place and South Halsted Street was one of their retail stores. At the time of this photo, the bakery/warehouse buildings were occupied by the Lennox Manufacturing Company, a soft drink cup maker for vending machines and the corner retail store was occupied by a Kroger Food Store.
