Photos from todays voluntary clean-up of The Croppies Acre in Dublin. As you can see the monument, which is dedicated to the rebel dead from the 1798 Rebellion, was in a filthy condition with used syringes, human excrement, leaves, plastic bags and other waste littering the entire area. The photos also show the area following the clean up. Fair play to the team of citizens who turned out on a bitterly cold morning to help out. The state of The Croppies Acre monument site sums up all that is wrong with the Twenty-Six County state. Citizens who have been abandoned by the state to the ravages of homelessness and addiction living in a monument dedicated to the memory of Irelands patriot dead, the upkeep of which has also been abandoned by the state. And all under the watch of a political establishment which maintains a parody of Irish Republic whilst lining the pockets of the Golden Circle with the peoples money. We can only wonder what Wolfe Tone, Henry Joe McCracken and the other leaders of Irelands first republican insurrection would make of the Ireland of 2014. éirígí Baile Ath Cliath will be organising further clean-ups of The Croppies Acre whilst continuing to work with Dublins growing and increasingly desperate homeless population and fighting austerity. There is little point in paying tribute to the dead if you arent willing to fight for the living. If you are interested in joining éirígí in Dublin or anywhere else please email eirigimembership@gmail or PM us on Facebook.
