Talking about paradigm shifts can be compromised by the fact of talking past each other, as the same words are understood differently from the differing perspectives. It is the experiences one has that attracts attention. Winning an argument by exposing the failure of holding a paradigm, can lead into some unsolvable problems as individuals refuse to recognize the loss and insist on winning even when they got the losing hand. Think errors are good ways to learn kind of paradigm; or say that Bad idea is a good idea because it help to do good stuff. Note that what helps to do good stuff be the good ideas and one learns best from the actual resolution of the problem not from any solution. An exploding gas tanks, can force a system to at least consider the need for change, though getting the manufacturers to recognize their dangerous design can be complicated by the fact that that would force them to change and/or assume their responsibility for the explosions...
