PhumlaniM Foundation organised for the winners of Miss and Mr Gamalakhe 2014 to be hosted at Genesis Leadership Academy in Marburg from 30th June-04 July 2014. The winners who are also official ambassadors of PhumlaniM Foundation had a week of leadership course facilitation where they were enlightened on areas that included: Recognising, Accepting and Increasing Your Value as a person, Ways to win with People, Focusing on Strengths and working on Weaknesses, Owning your Self Worth, Effective Decision Making, True Happiness, Assertiveness and Setting Goals, What is True Leadership and Potential These ambassadors were also involved in Community Service at The Genesis Care Centre where they helped prepare meals for the patients, were taught to make greeting cards(arts and crafts), assisted with the rehabilitation programs, interacted with the terminally ill patients, involved with the support services and much more. They participated in setting up a reading room for after school for learners to come to after school from the local communities and sorting through old clothes sponsored by the church congregation to be distributed to the local communities. It was a real moment of excitement when they also met with a youth team from Lake Pointe Church, Texas USA where they gained invaluable experience connecting with youth from the other side of the globe. They had a chance to share their hopes, dreams, experiences and culture with other young people like themselves and likewise were enlightened on their way of life and their life’s experiences. The team learned table etiquette which included skills such as setting a table, acceptable table conversation and how to use cutlery correctly. That proved to be an interesting activity where they learned something that would be beneficial to them in the future. This was an unforgettable and life changing experience for the young ambassadors, Management at PhumlaniM Foundation and the team at Genesis. We are also pleased to learn that our ambassadors were truly an amazing group to interact with and teach. The trainers confirm that they carried themselves with the utmost self-respect and respect for others and for the duration of the course. They were an absolute pleasure and are worthy of their titles as ambassadors. They are strong, mature and beautiful young people with an awesome future ahead of them.
