Phyllis and I just returned from a two-day trip up to New York - TopicsExpress

Phyllis and I just returned from a two-day trip up to New York City which in all ways could be described as historical. We went there to attend the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Societys annual celebration of Hamiltons birthday and this year- the commemoration of the 225th Anniversary of Hamilton being named our first Secretary of the Treasury. This group is focused strongly on history- and it was great fun!! We spent time at Hamiltons grave site at Old Trinity Church (which managed to survive the 9/11 attacks in lower Manhattan) and also the Museum of American Finance. Students of history know that Hamilton was an enormous contributor to building our economic and financial system. We also dined at the historic Fraunces Tavern in lower Manhattan, which has its place in history as the spot where General George Washington bade farewell to his troops at the end of the Revolutionary War. It was an enjoyable weekend... Some sad news- for all lovers of great corned beef on rye sandwiches- the world renowned Stage Deli has CLOSED!! : ( It was my all-time favorite deli and it was sad to walk in the building and find out it turned into an Irish pub (I love the Irish, but The Stage Deli was superb!!). We did dine at the nearby Carnegie Deli and their corned beef on rye was excellent, along with the chicken and matzoh-ball soup!! We also found out that the historic Tavern On the Green has re-opened!! Its a lovely place, made famous by being the place where Gordon Gecko meets Bud Fox for a few scenes in the movie Wall Street. Overall, a great few days in New York- and if you havent been there in a while, Times Square may shock you!! It is FILLED ALL AROUND with electronic billboards showing every type of news and advert you can think of- all around- surround-sound style!! Ahhhh... New York... a great place to visit... https://youtube/watch?v=ol0dPJdzm1M
