Picked up a 180k mile car a few months ago. Stripped the interior and under dash bs. I noticed a pretty major oil leak under the intake. Proceeded to remove fuel rail, intake manifold, air pump assembly. Noticed it was the oil filter adapter block. Removed it from the engine, cleaned it and replaced gasket. While the intake was off I replaced the vanos line using new copper crush washers and the hard plastic coolant line that attaches to the motor and the bottom of the expansion tank. I removed the other plastic hard line for the heater core circuit and plugged the hole in the head with a freeze out plug. Removed and capped the air pump valve. Reassembled everything I took apart with new intake manifold gaskets and throttle body gasket. I plugged the nipples (2) where the vac line for the air pump and exhaust flapper connected in back of the intake. Changed oil. Started the car. The car started fine. When the idle comes down it begins to stumble pretty bad. Theres also a loud, single knock that happens intermittently. If the throttle is pressed, the engine revs just fine and doesnt seem to have any type of miss at all. Its only at idle that it sounds like crap. Ideas.....?
