Picking up the phone and calling a lawyer can be a daunting experience. Having to trust your freedom and future to a complete stranger can sometimes be overwhelming. And uncertainties surrounding legal fees don’t make it any easier. Most lawyers charge hourly rates for criminal and traffic cases, and those rates can sometimes be astronomical. And many will send out exorbitant bills with very little clarification of the work actually performed. To reduce the uncertainties surrounding costs, our firm introduced published ‘fixed fees’ to the criminal law profession in 2004 – and many others have followed.
