‘Picnic In The Park’ will mark Armed Forces Day 2013 in Wirral A ‘Picnic In The Park’ will be held to mark Armed Forces Day 2013 on Saturday, 29 June, in Birkenhead Park. The event is a chance for people to come along to show their support for all our Armed Services and their families, including serving troops, veterans and cadets at an informal day of fun and activities. People are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the free entertainment between noon and 4pm, including activities for children, music and street theatre. There will also be stalls and fairground rides for small children. The event will be attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Cllr Dave Mitchell, and his wife Sue. He said: ‘Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in HM Armed Forces, and gives us as a nation an opportunity to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families and from veterans to cadets. ‘Across the country people are getting involved, and Wirral Council is delighted to be able to show our support by organising this special event.’ Events are being held up and down the country – for further information see armedforcesday.org.uk/ People are invited to bring a picnic, blankets and seating to enjoy the day. Admission will be free. Donations will be invited for the Mayor’s Charity Fund in aid of service organisation SSAFA.
