Here are some interesting nuggets we learned: - Port of New Orleans is part of worlds largest port system, which includes Port of Louisiana at La Place, and the ports of Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes. - From the Gulf of Mexico, it takes approximately 8-10 hours for ships to reach the Port of New Orleans - Although it is a public entity, the Port operates like a private business, charging ships by their tonnage for port usage - Chiquita Banana is returning to New Orleans after a 40 year absence, with bananas being shipped in from throughout Latin America.
