Pictures: 50 People Killed as TB Joshua’s Synagogue Guest House Building Collapsed, Church Members Attacked Journalists To Coverup Evidence Yesterday a building housing guests at TB Joshua’s church in Ikotun area of Lagos collapsed, trapping many people inside. Eyewitnesses who saw the whole mystery said over 50 dead bodies were counted even as the church said nobody died in the disaster. An eyewitness, who insisted that up to 50 persons died in the incident, said he saw almost 10 ambulances loaded with bodies going to and fro, taking victims to nearby hospitals. He said, “ I’m very sure that nothing less than 50 people were killed in the incident as ambulances loaded with bodies were going to and fro. The collapse was massive and the casualty figure was high.” The building that collapsed was initially a 2-storey building and was later made a 6-storey building, a source said the change in the structure is what led to the collapse of the building that served as guest house for church members and foreign miracle seekers. When the news first broke, people were able to gain access to the building but when the casualty figures jumped, TB Joshua was said to have ordered his church members to chase out all journalists and prevent further access into the building. The overzealous church workers reportedly attacked emergency rescuers mistaken for journalists. An official of LASEMA said, “The church members have been very aggressive and hostile to us; they attacked us and we had to withdraw our services. I was attacked, the officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the General Manager of LASEMA were also attacked. We were not hurt and our equipment was not damaged. This was, however, because we quickly left when they attacked us. We are still waiting to settle before we resume our job.” As at 7pm last night, 20 ambulances evacuated dead bodies to the mortuary and moved the gravely injured victims to the hospital A recharge card seller, who claimed she saw when the building collapsed, said she counted nothing less than 20 dead people. “It was so gory. Most of them were construction workers. I saw so many bodies being evacuated. I am sure not less than 20 people have died so far,” she claimed.
