It would be a good idea to remember that what existed once, and is explicitly mourned by the current president of Russia, could be re-imposed in one form or another if we are not wise. Little story of my own about fall of the Berlin Wall: I was aware in November 1989 that there was significant unrest in Eastern Europe, with the various Russian slave-states trying to break free. But, having been born just a few weeks before the Berlin Wall went up, I didnt think it or the Iron Curtain would be coming down any time soon. That barrier, and the Russian menace behind it, had been one of the defining facts of my entire life. I came home one evening from work and sat down at the kitchen table. Ardella was fixing dinner. Shed had the radio on earlier. We talked for a while about various things which I no longer remember because they werent very significant, and then she said, quite casually, Oh, by the way, the Berlin Wall came down today. It didnt even register for a moment. Then I looked at her and said, WHAT?! Why didnt you tell me that immediately!? Im still not sure why she hadnt.
