Pietro Annigoni (1910-1988, Italy)-portrait of Juanita Forbes (detail), 1955. Forbes private collection. Thanks to Mauro for commenting and reporting work. Annigoni studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. His painting trace materials (tempera and oil) and the style of the old masters, including Leonardo da Vinci and Titian. Important portraitist performed works for Juanita Forbes, Margot Fonteyn, the Duchess of Devonshire, and for Queen Elizabeth II. In particular this portrait, much discussed and appreciated, at times became an icon, a real point of reference between figurative painters traditionalists of 1950.
