Pigs and Speciesism in Anarchist Discourse It has become common - TopicsExpress

Pigs and Speciesism in Anarchist Discourse It has become common practice within the anarchist community and similar others to use the term pig in a derogatory sense while referring to law enforcement. This usage of the word has achieved widespread practice and gained a common popularity. The term has become so needlessly ingrained within the foundation of common anarchist discourse that one would be hard-pressed to find anyone without knowledge of its modern, unconventional usage. Despite this popularity there is however issue concerning the underlying context of the term. This issue arises from the existence of the infrequently mentioned second subject of this common insult. In this way the use of the word pig or pigs in an negative context is not only offensive to the foundations of anarchist philosophy but to the innocent species itself. As I have discussed before in previous posts the issue of speciesism is nothing less then inherently entangled within the very fabric anarchist belief. Through our pursuit of the abolishment of all forms of abusive hierarchy we can not overlook the unnecessary one which we have forcefully imposed upon the innocent animals of this world. The pig itself is an animal possessing of a strong intellect and an emotional character. No species deserves to have the usage of its name stolen and abused. This may serve the purpose of insulting law enforcement but only at the tremendous cost of violently degrading an entire species. Because of this the usage of the term pigs in any context except that of its originally intended meaning is not only unnecessarily cruel to our fellow animal companions but also imposes outdated speciesist hierarchy to our anarchist dialogue. In conclusion I propose that we seek other more appropriate and progressive terms while referring to law enforcement. Combatting the forces of oppression not only begins in our actions and thoughts but in the very words we choose to speak.
