Pila balde’ protest vs water rate hike by Jul 12, 2013 6:45am HKT URBAN poor water consumers from Tondo will stage today ‘Pila Balde’ protest against the looming water rate hikes along Road 10 in Port Area, Manila in time of the series of Black Friday protests leading to the 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Aquino on July 22. The ‘Pila Balde’ protest will feature the aligning of empty pails and water basins along Road 10 stretch that will be participated by urban poor residents who are also facing threats of demolitions in the coming days. Led by consumer group #StrikeTheHike, and militant groups Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-National Capital Region (Bayan-NCR) and Gabriela-Manila Chapter, protesters will call on the government and the water concessionaires of MWSS: Maynilad and Manila Waters to REFUND their exorbitant and illegal pass-on charges on water to their consumers including their income taxes, foreign currency adjustments, environmental charges, among others.
