Pine Pitch Salve 1 can large enough to hold all your resin. 1 can wider than the first one. Pine, Spruce, Fir, and/or other tree Resin Olive or other oil of your choice Beeswax Poke lots of holes in bottom of smaller can. Put resin chunks in can with holes in bottom. Set that smaller can inside the larger can and put that whole thing either in a double boiler or directly into a pot of boiling water. Be careful not to expose the resin to flames as it is highly flammable. The goal is to melt the resin so it runs out the holes and leaves behind all the bark and stuff in the can with the holes. - Mix 1 part melted resin w/ 1-2 parts olive or other oil of your choice. For thick resin use 2 parts olive oil; for runnier resin, use 1 part olive oil. - Mix 10 parts of above resin/oil mix w/ 1 part beeswax. - If not thick enough add one more part beeswax. - If still not thick enough add ¼ more part beeswax. - Pour into containers of your choice. You may opt to leave out the beeswax and add some of this oil mix to your Muscle Salves or General Wound Care Salves. This recipe was put together from looking at the follow websites and looking at the various salve recipes I already have. primitiveways/pine_pitch_stick.html (how to render the resin in cans) bearmedicineherbals/pine-pitch-salve.html (resin/oil recipe) Uses: - To remove deeply lodged splinter or imbedded fragment.
