Pineapple Express. The pulse of warm air that comes from the Pacific through Hawaii through Anchorage Alaska. Polar Vortex The permanent pile of cold air that hangs around the North Pole. Occasionally, the cold air piles up too high and a squirt is sent down to the plain, giving us winter storms. When you overheat the Pacific, it manifests itself as a giant pulse of warm air that overwhelms Alaskan normal weather on sweeps into Canada to push the entire polar vortex down to the Midwest and East coast. They get unprecedented cold weather.. Ill report right here, that through my life, Ive had epiphanies, insights ahead of the scientists. In the 1990s, in Scientific American or Discovery, I saw a map where they figured out where the great ice sheets of the Ice Age were. Up in Alaska, there was a giant ice cap in the north, as well as a giant ice cap in the south. From the west to the east, feeding from Bering Sea, there was a funnel of clear ground, going east toward Canada. It looked like a blow torch had burned through some material, in this case, ice. I remembered reading in other places that through the Ice Age the Native American ancestors had a clear path going down the west central part of Canada through the present United States to New Mexico, even while the Midwest was covered by glaciers. And then I saw it. If something changed the currents of the Pacific, so it circulated clockwise, and drove over Alaska, the warm, wet weather could burn through the lower Alaskan climes, but it would always be cold enough in the highlands to freeze as snow, then ice. The Ice caps would build up there, turning permanent white, having a lower albedo, making the area over the ice caps colder and gradually larger. The Pacific becomes a big moisture machine feeding the growing ice caps in North America. A period of global warming becomes an Ice Age for North America. Look at the circulation on Al Rokers weather map. If that gets stronger on pushes over the Alaskan mountains permanently, we will get ever growing ice caps in the Northern American western mountains and under the area under eastern Canada under the normal position of the Polar Vortex around the North Pole. This ice sheet will have the lower albedo, getting colder while the Pacific stays super warm, creating a vicious heat exchange circulation, in a circular pattern. Paul Eichhorn November 2014
