Pineapples are originally from South America! History also states that Christopher Columbus first discovered it on an Caribbean Island named Guadeloupe. Spanish and Portuguese explorers introduced the fruit in Asia, Africa and the South Pacific at the end of the 16th century. Since the Pineapple is a highly perishable fruit, it was a rare and a expensive item. I am thankful that we live in the 21st century, to be able to enjoy this now accessible and affordable fruit!
