Pit bull attacks! So now I have your attention may I borrow the soap box one last time? A neighbor down the street has a bull terrier and a cane corso Mastiff. I have met them and she has told me they are pure bred and have papers. Of course they do not remotely resemble pit bulls, nor do they share the least resemblance to each other. One day while Lexi and I were playing in the fenced play yard, another neighbor lady stopped by and started chatting. She mentioned the lady down the street and said, She has 2 pit bulls, you know. I told her that actually, those dogs are not pit bulls and told her the dogs breeds. She was a little flabbergasted and surprised. Few minutes later she asked me what kind of dog Lexi is. I told her that, actually, my dog Lexi, is an American Pit Bull Terrier, or at least she is obviously predominately pit. Really? she exclaimed. I would not have guessed that. How common is this?? Fortunately, in most of the stories about hero pit bulls they show the dogs photos. However, rarely is there a photo of the dog when there has been an attack. How many people are like my neighbor? Is she really stupid or is she like many other people and seriously misinformed by the media and 100 other people? How many dogs are labeled pits and murdered because too many people cannot even properly ID a pit? How many bites and attacks are blamed on pits when the dog did not even resemble a pit? How in the world can a person even believe that a mastiff and a bull terrier are the same breed?? This is a prime example of what pit bull advocates are up against and a perfect example of skewed statistics and beliefs regarding pit bulls. Thank you.
