Pixie pupdate - After being released from the hospital on Sunday, - TopicsExpress

Pixie pupdate - After being released from the hospital on Sunday, Pixie finally started to act more like herself yesterday morning and was happy to have her foster brother hand feed her chicken. Aside from the HGE that was the reason for her hospital stay, Pixie also has a severe urinary tract infection, which she is being treated for with a 4 week round of antibiotics. The cause of this is suspected to be directly related to her urine incontinence and her bladder becoming full and not released often enough, as the ultrasound showed a large amount of sedimentation in her bladder and mineralization in her kidneys. She has been prescribed two medications to help with the incontinence, which will likely be a lifelong need. One of these will help her to relax her urethra and the other will help her bladder to contract when she postures to urinate. It is also recommended that someone expresses her bladder three times a day, which basically involves placing your hand on Pixies abdomen and compressing her bladder. Her urine culture results are still pending. During her ultrasound, a mass was also discovered on her right adrenal gland. Without a biopsy, it is impossible to determine whether this is benign or malignant, or the course of its growth. Pixie is a senior girl, with other health issues, so rather face the risks involved with surgically removing this it is recommended that a repeat ultrasound be done in 2-3 months, or sooner if she is not doing well, to check for changes. Lastly, Pixie will need physical therapy to help her rebuild the atrophied muscles in her back and hind end. While Pixie does have a variety of health related problems, none of them there are life-threatening at this time. We plan to provide her with everything she needs to live a happy, pain free life, as all dogs should. She also needs her left eye removed, because it is dead and shriveling back into her eye socket. We are waiting for the invoice from her hospital stay, however, in addition to that (which includes the hospital stay, more x-rays, various tests, and an ultrasound) the estimate to remove her eye is a little over $1200, and physical therapy twice weekly will be between $60-$120 per week. If you are able to donate towards the cost of her care, Pixie would be so grateful, but if not shes understands and asks if you can please share her fundraising page! She is 10 years old and is looking forward to having many more happy years! https://youcaring/nonprofits/pixie-s-journey/284435
