Placer Land Trust staff attended a wonderful workshop/workday to learn how to build wetland ponds for red-legged frogs in the El Dorado National Forest near Georgetown. The ponds are designed to dry up periodically to resist invasion by fish and bullfrogs, both of which prey on red-legged frogs. The larger ponds can also be used as dip sites for firefighting activities. The workshop was a product of a partnership involving the U.S. Forest Service, The Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, SAVE THE FROGS!, and the Center for Wetlands and Stream Restoration.
