Placing the hands on the upper part of the chest and under the - TopicsExpress

Placing the hands on the upper part of the chest and under the beard is a new stance, which isnt found in the Sunnah nor in the (non-prophetic) narrations, nor in any of the credible statements. This only recently took its root from going over the top in applying the Sunnah. This is excessiveness on the part of those who say that hands are to be placed on the chest, just as those who place it under the belly button become lax in letting their hands loose and exaggerate until their hands reach their pubic region. Both parties carry out the Sunnah of clasping the hand but they go to extremes when it comes to where to place the hands. - Ash-Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd NOTE: The Shaykh disects the opinions regarding this issue and addresses not just above the belly button and upper chest but also slightly above and slightly below, and also how sadr was understood by Imam Ahmad as above the belly button as per Ibn Qudamah etc. So please control yourself. The issue is flexible.
