Planned NLU consortium to increase dialogue, raise standards across national law schools: Vice chancellors (VC) of the 16 Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) participants, on 1 November, agreed to form a “national law university consortium” to regularly discuss and address academic and other issues facing NLUs. RMLNLU Lucknow VC Gurdip Singh told Legally India that a sub-committee consisting of NLSIU Bangalore VC Prof Venkat Rao, Nalsar Hyderabad VC Prof Faizan Mustafa and RGNUL Patiala VC Paramjit Jaswal will be submitting a “concrete proposal” on the framework and functioning of the proposed NLU consortium. “[The sub-committee] is going to decide complete details so that the consortium meets and discusses various issues of NLUs. The consortium would be to establish academic relationships between all the universities. It will be a sort of an institution which will perpetuate the academic link between all these national law universities. Not only issues relating to activities will be discussed, even academics and how should we develop legal teaching and research further, what should be done. Everything will be shared to raise the standards,” said Singh. The sub-committee for the NLU consortium is the same committee which was originally formed in September to develop a new memorandum of understanding between CLAT participants, as reported by Legally India.
