Planning Commission voted unanimously against the Daysville Glen - TopicsExpress

Planning Commission voted unanimously against the Daysville Glen development in Libertytown tonight. Here a few take aways ... 1) This isnt done. It will still go before the BoCC and the developer will no doubt come back with modifications to appease the concerns expressed about roads and water tonight. 2) I found it amusing that the Commissioners, including Blaine, asked questions and were told on several occasions that it was a Phase 2 issue. Welcome to club, lol! 3) The road issue dominated the discussion by the Board. The second speaker set this up very well with his testimony about the previously planned LIbertytown Bypass. That road, by the way, was supposed to go directly through this property. 4) Blaine Young actually admitted that they made a mistake in the 2012 Comp Plan revision. 5) Let me say that again - Blaine Young actually admitted that they made a mistake in the 2012 Comp Plan revision when they restored the zoning without bringing back the Bypass road. 6) In other words, Blaine Young said that they made a mistake when they hurriedly restored the zoning to a parcel and forgot about the infrastructure needed to support it. Hmmm - doesnt that sound like quite a few other developments we know? 7) I mentioned in an earlier post that I was surprised that this public water development is actually a public well development. I think the surrounding neighbors should be very concerned about this. 8) This developer and his attorney were not very good. First, we heard the developer discussing MPDU residents as not supposed to be visible to the community and a few other things. I was amazed he was speaking the words out loud. Second, during their rebuttal, the attorney referenced my testimony calling on the Commissioners to exercise their good judgement, and told them that the time for judgement had passed - i.e., you Commissioners dont get to make a judgement, you just have to approve it because its on the Comp Plan map. Hmm - I wonder if after that vote, theyd like a redo on that particular line of thinking! In closing, during this period of the election, citizens opposed to these last few developments have an edge. These guys dont want to look bad and approve bad developments. They had no problem approving bad developments before, and we got hosed as a result. Fortunately, the people in LIbertytown can take advantage of the timing now and, perhaps, not face the same fate that we did. Regards, Steve
