Planning a summer trip to Florence? Take this opportunity to discover the eccentric genius of the Florentine Renaissance, Piero di Cosimo (1462-1522), a figure almost unknown despite the appreciation shown by critics and the extensive catalogue of paintings of sacred and profane themes today preserved in museums and collections around the world. Grown up in Florence during the years when Lorenzo Il Magnifico was ruling the city - a time during which excellent painters were active in the city - Piero elaborated a unique language, marked by a keen observation of nature, revealing affinities with French painters and Leonardo da Vinci, through which traditional and codified composition models assumed unusual and extraordinary connotations. The exhibition - the first monograph retrospective dedicated to Piero di Cosimo - presents approximately forty-five paintings and thirty drawings by Piero di Cosimo will be on view, useful for understanding the creative path followed by the artist. A selected group of works by contemporary masters such as Filippino Lippi, Lorenzo di Credi, Maestro di Serumido, Cosimo Rosselli and Fra Bartolomeo, whose works complement Piero di Cosimo’s work stylistically and iconographically will also be on display, for a total of approximately one hundred works. Wonderful!
